Getting Married
For my first blog entry I'm just going to think out loud about getting married.
I have been married for 7 weeks now and have been reflecting often. A couple of years ago I would never have thought I'd be in this position now. I have a loving wife, an amazing house, and so many opportunities ahead. I'm still new to this whole marriage thing but I already know it isn't all sunshine and rainbows. One of my family members phrased it well that problems never go away, just the type of problem changes.
A couple of things I need to prioritize:
- Leading us to heaven
- Being there for my wife when she needs me
- Remembering that it is us vs the problem
I'll go into a bit more depth on these. First, my ultimate job as a husband is to lead my wife and family to heaven. I need to do this by living out my Catholic faith and not taking the easy way out when presented with difficulties. For the next two points, marriage is a partnership (which also includes God). Our goal as a family is to help each other, when one of us loses, both of us lose. Therefore, I need to be present and provide support when my wife faces challenges so that we do well as a family. In addition, arguments are the result of a problem and in the end neither of us want to be mad. This goal means that we need to see the problem as something we are tackling together so that whatever needs to be done to fix it can be done as we take responsibility and apologize for our actions.
I am really grateful to have found such an amazing woman that I get to call my wife. I am looking forward to all the years to come, both the good and the bad. There is no one I'd rather build this life with (and play board games with) than my wife Ruby.
